R.I.S.E. Program

In response to the needs we’ve heard expressed by our partners, clients, and community, Choices and Changes has developed a new opportunity for families in our community.  We are rolling out our Therapeutic Learning Support programs this fall!  These programs will not only support your child academically in the learning process but will place significant focus on the social and emotional aspects of learning as well.  Our programs aim to meet kids where they’re at and help them to develop a love for learning and self-discovery.  These programs are open to children in elementary school up through middle school and high school.  As we learn about the world around us together in a group, we will also be helping to explore the internal work related to exploring love and acceptance in a larger community as well.

Families who might be interested in therapeutic learning supports include homeschooling families, families looking to supplement e-learning and remote learning options, learners who fall “outside the box”, and anyone else who feels their child/children might benefit from these programs.

$750 for full 10 week session

Location:

Giving Gardens and Morsches Park

Elementary Program

Wednesdays 12 pm – 4 pm; September 2nd – November 11th (no class Oct 28th)

Our therapeutic nature program for elementary ages is an introduction to the natural world. Through hands-on activity in the garden, games, crafts, stories, song and adventure children learn how to take healthy risks in a safe way while developing a deeper connection to themselves, the natural world and their community. Skills introduced include plant identification, animal tracking, shelter building, fire safety (lighting a fire using various methods, fire structure, extinguishing a fire, the responsibility of using fire), bird language, sit spot, nature journaling, gardening, outdoor cooking, storytelling, and hazard awareness.

Middle and High School Program

Thursdays 12 pm – 4 pm; September 3rd – November 12th (no class October 29th)

Experiential education outdoors and at the farm immerses teenagers in learning with a holistic, student-centered focus.  The program aims to help students become invested in their education and foster a lifelong relationship with the land, their mentors and classmates, and the community. They are allowed and even encouraged, to push their own boundaries through supported risks, teaching them independence, resilience, and perseverance outside of four walls. As students grow in knowledge and skills, new avenues for exploration open naturally. Outdoor skills aren’t just limited to the more tangible skills; the natural world also builds self-esteem and confidence, positive relationship development, and creative problem-solving.
