Sparkly. Loyal. Sassy. Dedicated.
Generous. Experienced. Compassionate. Tough. Girl-can-bling-anything.
You’ve decided you are going to do this. You signed up for this to teach you those skills you need. You were told the coach will be waiting for you when you arrive. As the time to meet the coach draws closer, you are increasingly anxious and intimidated. A coach, someone who knows this stuff inside and out. They will totally wonder why the heck you thought you could do this. You arrive. A woman is here with whistle and stopwatch in hand…and she is covered in bling and blang. “You ready?” she asks. “I’m not sure,” you answer. “Well, we are doing this.” she says with a kind and quirky smile. So what you’ve never done this?! So what, you have no idea to?! Anxiety drains out and your spirit is lifted – your heart beats with courage. Something about this bling-covered woman – Joan is going to be a no-nonsense, generous, committed and challenging coach-therapist. And that is exactly what you need. You are going to do this. With Joan alongside, you can do this.
If you are looking for an experienced therapist to help you learn how to cope with or overcome painful life issues I would love to help you achieve your goals. I will always tell you the truth but will not tell you what to do. That is always your decision. I base therapy on your personal and professional goals using research based techniques. I strongly encourage clients to complete homework assignments as this is the best way to learn and practice new and more helpful ways of thinking and behaving. Knowledge is power but you also have to couple that knowledge with action to create effective changes in your life.
I am particularly passionate about helping couples find their way back to emotional intimacy using the Gottman Method of couples counseling. Specifically when infidelity is present. Based on decades of research by Dr. John and Judy Gottman, I use in-session exercises and homework assignments to address conflict and miscommunication within the relationship.
I believe that we are all doing the best we can. I want to offer you alternatives in how to address the issues causing pain in your life. My goal is to offer you the resources to help you achieve positive change in your life. I want to teach you skills you can use for the rest of your life and in almost all areas of life.
