If you are looking for an experienced therapist to help you learn how to cope with or overcome painful life issues, Joan is passionate about helping others achieve their goals. Joan always tells clients the truth but will never tell them what to do. That is always their decision. Joan bases therapy on client’s personal and professional goals using research based techniques. Joan often uses homework with clients as a way to learn and practice new and more helpful ways of thinking and behaving. She believes knowledge is power but you also have to couple that knowledge with action to create effective changes in your life.
Joan is particularly passionate about helping couples find their way back to emotional intimacy using the Gottman Method of couples counseling. Joan often works with those in relationships where infidelity is or has been present. Based on decades of research by Dr. John and Judy Gottman, Joan uses in-session exercises and homework assignments to address conflict and miscommunication within the relationship. Joan has experience with young adults and adults, and she specializes in substance abuse, couples, family issues surrounding divorce, blended families, and parenting issues.
